Varnish

Varnish is the protection of your painting. It protects against air pollution, dirt and dust. It also retrieves dull spots in a painting, and ensures deeper colors.
Final varnish may only be applied after 6 months to 1 year, depending on the thickness of the paint layer. Only then  the oil painting will be dry through and through.
Haarlemmer Oil Color has 2 types of varnish:
Damar varnish, a shiny final varnish based on natural damar resin. This varnish gives your painting a good protection and a particularly "rich" finish. Moreover, this varnish can be removed quite easily when the varnish layer is being refreshed.
Waxpaste, a satin paste based on wax and turpentine. This paste can be applied over the paint with a lint-free soft cloth. A silky smooth effect is created by gentle rubbing. You can also heat the layer slightly with, for example, a hair dryer, so that the wax paste penetrates all pores of the paint layer.
